We have put literally hundreds of heartworm positive dogs on Heartgard only and have had them go from positive to negitive with no ill effects. We would never use the traditional treatment for heartworms. We had one dog go from positive to negitive in 4 months. Most take about 12 to 18 months to be hearworm free. There are many vets now who treat in the way also, most refer to it as "soft treatment". Some also use Doxicyline for 30 days too.
References :
while i am all for natural treatments and will usually try and seek out a natural treatment for something, heart worm disease is not one of them. heart worm disease is way too risky imo to try something that might not work. if you want a natural treatment for dry skin or ear mites or vomiting or diarrhea then fine, but not with something that can and will kill your pet if it goes untreated.
References :
Has anyone used Heartworm Free or Parasite Dr. to treat your dogs heartworms?
These are all natural treatments for heartworms in dogs. I've read about both of them, but would much rather hear from someone that has used it. I'm trying to decide on which one to buy. I am rescuing a dog and he has heartworms and we really don't wanna do the invasive dangerous treatment that the doctor recommended. We'd much rather try something natural first.
